Informix and mixed (ascii and iso) terminals

After switching to SPARC-Hardware I must keep for some time our old ascii-terminals. We use the german ascii-code which replaces the braces, the backslash and the pipe-symbol and the tilde ({}[]\\|~" with the german umlauts "'''''''". Now I must change the whole database to iso-code which uses codes above 128 for the umlauts. But for displaying on the 7-bit ascii-terminals, I need ascii- code. Do You have an idea??
