Models & Informix
Posted in 1991
Hi - I'd like to take an informal survey on a couple of questions specifically for users of Informix DBMS products: 1. How many of you base your database designs on logical models of the kind described by James Martin and others under the broad category of Information Engineering? How many are building systems that are based on some sort of formalized Information Strategy Plan? 2. How many of you are building systems in an environment that includes DATA ADMINISTRATION and/or DATABASE ADMINISTRATION support as separate responsibilities from application development and or system administration? 3. How many of you are involved in building distributed applications on the Informix DBMS platform? How many are distributed in multiple countries? How many are planning to use distributed database to support such applications? What do you think of Informix Star? What alternatives have you considered? 4. How are issues of shareability of data among different organizational units and among different geographic locations managed in your shop? 5. What sorts of architectures (in the broadest sense) are you using to make the above kinds of issues manageable? Hopefully, we can get one or two interesting conversations going on some of these topics. - Greg ------------ DHL WORLDWIDE EXPRESS ------------------------------------------- Greg Bryan gbryan@ssf-sys.dhl.com DHL Systems Data Administrator uunet!ssf-sys.dhl.com!gbryan San Francisco -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
