User increased BAR_MAX_BACKUP from 1 to 4 for parallel backup streams and asked how to verify it's working. Resolution: Check online.log and BAR_ACT_LOG for multiple "Level 0 Archive started" messages (one per dbspace) instead of a single combined message, use "onstat -g ntt|grep ontape" to see 4 threads, or run "ps -ef | grep onbar". With BAR_MAX_BACKUP=1, archives show all dbspaces in one line; with 4, each starts separately.

Hi,
Good Day we tried increasing the value of BAR_MAX_BACKUP from default (1) to 4
to increase the number of streams when running the backup to speed up the
process.
My question now is how can I really verify that the value was indeed changed I
mean other than backup should be faster how can I check that it is already
using 4 streams than the default value 1.
Many Thanks in Advance
Hi,
If you run onstat -g ntt|grep ontape you will see 4 threads. Also you can
check online log which tells that multiple dbpsace backups started.

Nitin

Look in your online.log and BAR_ACT_LOG. You should see messages such as:
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace01
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace02
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace03
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace04
When one dbspace completes another should start.
Also in you BAR_ACT_LOG you should see 4 process successfully forked messages.
Or just "ps -ef | grep onbar"

Hi,
thanks you for the feedback if the result should really be like below when
stream is set to 4
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace01
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace02
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace03
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace04
then I would like to ask what should be the normal result when the stream is
only set to 1? should it be?
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace01, dbspace02,dbspace03,dbspace04
Thanks in advance appreciate all the help the you have given
Lester,
You are right, when BAR_MAX_BACKUP is set to 1 you will see the below output.
Level 0 Archive started on dbspace01, dbspace02,dbspace03,dbspace04
Thanks,
Lloyd
