As periodic discussions have shown in the past, there is a range of opinions among participants in this forum -- not only about such posts in general, but also in varying degrees to individual articles. Job announcements are in kind of a gray area as you might imagine. Announcements of jobs with no obvious connection to Informix products are harder to justify. If *you* think a posting is inappropriate, then you should respond. The approach I have pretty much settled on is to reply directly to the original author of any posting that I think is inappropriate for this newsgroup. Nothing fancy, just a statement that c.d.i is dedicated to technical discussions about Informix database software and related products, and that the subject matter of the article in question was completely unrelated to the charter of the group. I also include the full text of the article in my reply and Cc: the address "postmaster" at the site from which the orignial article was posted. Unless there is some aspect of the article that bears further discussion (as was the case with your question), my experience has been that posting a follow-up back to the entire group doesn't have much long term affect. This may sound like a rather dispassionate response, but unless the offense was particularly flagrant, anything more will probably be wasted effort on your part. Plus, there's always the chance that it was an honest mistake due to inexperience or over enthusiasm. The rationale behind this approach is that the most powerful response is for 100's or 1000's of people around the Net to simply say "Don't do that." That will be much more likely to get people's attention. Just my opinion, of course.
