The pitfalls are that it won't work. ;-| 7.x can only update the latest index structures etc. You could probably get away with upgrading to 5.08 first, then 7.x, but 5.10 is obviously the latest. Of course this is updating. If you want to dump your data to ASCII then import it into a new database server, then that's another story, and an un-necessary one.
