Reconstructing Replicates and Server Definitions
Posted in 2014
Greetings. I think this is my first post on this forum. I posted this message in the IIUG group on LinkedIn but someone suggested I post it here as well. Some time ago, Jarrod (whose last name sounds like the brand of my favorite wine :-) posted a complicated query that reconstructs the cdr commands that created all the replicates in the syscdr database. It was wrapped in a bash script named recreate_er_define_stmts.sh and can be downloaded at ftp://ftp.iiug.org/pub/informix/pub/recreate_er_define_stmts.sh.gz. Jarrod explains that his query is not ideal for all situations. Unfortunately, mine seems to be one of those situations. While his SQL is a model of clever efficiency - the SQL itself generates most of the command - it is also difficult to modify. Hence, I'm trying my hand at it. My philosophy is to use SQL to extract raw data, then use another tool - Perl in my case - to reconstruct the commands from the data. As an aside: My query as it stands now won't handle strict parent-child topologies (Jarrod's situation). But that can come later and my current situation doesn't call for it. When I'm up for that I will have no hesitation about posting the query for help. (Hey, I didn't formulate the SQL on my own - I simplified Jarrod's and removed his correlated subquery. I have no shame asking for help. :-) My difficulty at the moment: Interpreting the options represented by the individual bits in repdef.flags. Where is this documented? (Google search has been unhelpful.) The 11.5 ER manual describes only 2 syscdr tables, and not helpful ones at that, at least not for my purposes. Can anyone show me where to find the documentation for these tables and mainly those flags? BTW I have also formulated a query to get raw information on the servers themselves but I'm not up to that yet. Thanks much. -- Jacob Salomon (And yes, still in pursuit of that evasive, undomesticated, semi-aquatic avian :)
