Memory leak under I4GL RDS 7.20.UD4
Posted in 1998
Hi there, We've just upgraded IDS engine to 7.30.UC5 and I4GL, RDS, ID and ISQL to 7.20.UD4, and whilst most stuff is working ok, I'd appreciate some help with one RDS application that fails with the following message: -1319 The 4GL program has run out of runtime data space memory. The program hasn't been changed for a while and was previously running fine under the old version of I4GL/RDS. Without going into too much detail as to what the program does (as it has lots of modules, uses lots of cursors) I wondered if anyone else has had this type of error on a stable program after upgrading to 7.20.UD4. All modules have been recompiled under the new Informix directory. I monitored the fglgo process under Glance (HP-UX perf. monitoring tool) and saw that the DATA RSS (kb) used by the process got to the limit set by the maxdsiz kernel parameter (approx, 114,688 Kb) and then crashed (it takes around 40 minutes to get this far). I then recompiled the 4GL pseudo code using the OLD informix directory and ran this against the 7.30 engine, the program worked fine and never took more than 740 Kb for DATA RSS (and all the other values like TEXT, STACK, PRIVATE, were equally low) and never crashed! I have reported the problem to Informix and am awaiting a solution, meanwhile for this one program we point INFORMIXDIR to the old one where I4GL/RDS 6.05 (and IDS 7.23) is installed and run this against the 7.30 instance, which isn't an ideal position to be in and unsuported!
