How do I use DCE for ESQL with threads?
Posted in 1998
Some background: I'm writing a shared library to be called by Netscape Enterprise Server, running on HPUX 10.20, which uses DCE threads to handle requests. In my library I am using ESQL/C to access an Informix Database. The steps in the INFORMIX-ESQL/C Programmer's Manual V. 7.2, pg 11-14: 1) Install the DCE thread package.... Refer to your DCE installation instructions .... This has been done, but I don't know if it was done fully or correctly. The person handling the installation is as unfamiliar with DCE as I am. 2) Set the THREADLIB environment variable to indicate which thread package to use .... This version of ESQL/C supports only the DCE thread package .... Tells me to set THREADLIB=DCE. Done. 3) Compile the program with th esql command, and specify the -thread command-line option. When I do this, I see that esql links in libdce.sl. My code core dumps as soon as I hit the line "EXEC SQL DATABASE ...". The code running as stand-alone (not within a Netscape Server thread and not compiled with the threadsafe libraries, etc) works just fine. Questions: Is that all that I need to do to give Informix the DCE support it needs? I am not managing any threads within my code, just running within a thread. Is there something I am missing from my DCE installation / configuration? Does some component of DCE need to be running? Or am I just looking to use their library? -- -- Jon Egan -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
