Incompetence!

Just blowing off steam: My company bought the LiveWire Pro product from Netscape recently. Server-side Java-scripting ties directly into the database (Informix, Oracle, Sybase, you name it) with all the calls. Automatically formats table information for HTML output without any human intervention (grab a row, format it, grab the next row - great!) which makes my life easier! Problem reared it's head: You can't put the information into a temp table (select * from goober where ... into temp t1;). The program stops and reports an error. Fine. RTFM-time. Netscape only sent the installation guide for OnLine 7.12.. Hmm, problem. Look around; they sent 2 copies of that manual. Hmm. Call tech-support (don't even start me on their phone-system!) to get an answer. Talk to a guy who's pretty knowledgable about Oracle (!) and is pretty helpful. We agree I'm trying to do something that I should be able to do. Next step: the guy at Netscape calls Informix. Informix calls me. We test the engine; no problem there. Informix calls Netscape and let's Netscape know the engine is good and I can do what I want, just not with LiveWire Pro. In the meantime I'm still hunting for the right manual (can't call Informix about this, Netscape is supposed to be doing the distribution). The other people at Netscape that I deal with sorta agree that I should have the other manual and it'll be to me soon. In the meantime I'm working with PDF files I pulled from the Informix site which aren't as complete (or nice) as standard manuals and waiting for Netscape to call me back as to why I can't use a temporary table to work with. Thanks for letting me vent. Spleen is back to normal. -Joseph "Nothing is impossible; only improbable."
