XPS Upgrade
Posted in 2007
Guto wanted to move an XPS 8.21 database to XPS 8.50 with remapped chunks, so an onbar restore wasn't usable and he tried dbexport instead — but the 9.20 (IDS/ISQL) dbexport on the XPS box failed with "Unknown error message 19165". He also tried building the dbxpsldr utility without ESQL/C on the XPS machine. Art Kagel suggested compiling it statically elsewhere; that linked but still failed ("Error getting table information"). Fernando Nunes noted XPS ships no dbexport and the 9.20 one can't be used against XPS, advising the migration guide or IBM. No working solution is recorded; the poster planned to try HPL/pload.

Hi There!
I'm planning to upgrade my XPS 8.21 to XPS 8.50,
remapping all the chunks, once I have a bigger storage,
I"m able to fit the dbspaces in one logical volume.
And that's the question:
As a onbar restore deffinily need to be made over similar chunks,
I tried to use de dbexport but i'm getting this errors:
[informix@cgrserv04 informix_xps]$ dbexport cellsat_biw -c -ss -o /
data/backup/export
Unknown error message 19165.You have new mail in /var/mail/informix
The dbexport version is as follows:
[informix@cgrserv04 informix_xps]$ dbexport -V
INFORMIX-SQL Version 9.20.UC2
Software Serial Number ACN#A313826
I've found out that exists a dbxpsldr utility, which is supposed to do
all the
load/unload scripts creation, but as I didn't have a esql installed in
this box
I simple ftped the esql from other one, where the esql is working
properly ( a IDS 9.20 version )
and tried to compile with no success, then I've tried to compile the
dbxpsldr.ec on this IDS 9.20 machine, and then transfer the compiled
version, and tried to run it at the XPS machine, again with no
success.
Is there a way for me to do so?
Thanks in advance!
Guto.

Compile on the other machine with the -static flag so that you do not
need the ESQL/C runtime libraries.
That may do the trick.

Thanks for the the trick, the program doens't give me any
missed link error, but it isn't working...
[informix@cgrserv04 xmp]$ ./dbxpsldr cellsat_biw -l /data/backup/
l_cellsat_biw.sql
Error getting table information.
Creating load scripts failed
I'll have to find a way to do it!
Maybe using pload or HPL, as a special expert told me.
Many Thanks!

Are you using v9.20 dbexport against XPS?

Hi Fernando!
Yes, as you can see, there`s a wrong version of dbexport at my xps
box.
I'm looking forward for a solution, wich could be either a esql for
xps, to compile
this dbxpsdlr version or the HPL or pload.
Any tips?
Obrigado!

I'm sorry... I was missing one important point... XPS does not include dbexport.
But you won't be able to use the 9.20 dbexport with XPS.
You should check the migration guide or ask IBM for help...
Regards.
