beautify-unl.sh - Tiny revision
Posted in 2006
Hi Family. I have just uploaded a miniscule upgrade of a tried-and-true script I wrote sooo long ago: beautify-unl.sh. Most of my other displaying scripts depend on this. I recently discovered that in "unload" files with hex columnslike 0x023034059, the hex data can be mistaken for numeric output and sent to printf with the %d format. A hex number with recognizable hex digits (e.g. 0x123ABC45) is correctly formatted with %s. Note that this did not happen on the HP-UX system on which I developed it; if it had, I would have realized something amiss 5 years ago. All I did now was add a comment to the setting of a variable named numpattern: That some flavors of awk require a double backslash in order to make the pattern work. I also corrected a bunch of typos in the doc that comes with it, as well as updated the doc with the features that had been added but never before described. Some big differences in the uploaded file: beautify-unl.zip: - The new one was wrapped by CygWin-SHAR - It was compressed with WinZip, not gzip. Have fun with it.. -- J.S.
