Onarchive - a simple requirement
Posted in 1997
At present, I dump my production server to disk using onarchive. This is done in a script using the unattended operations feature, as we don't have 24 operations (well we do, but I don't want to involve them in unnecessary work). This all works fine, and is pretty reliable. I want to change to archiving to DLT tape. Onarchive unattended operation seems completely unsuited to this. Before issuing the archive command one must define a new volume for the archive vset. This could return any one of at least three sets of responses: A straightforward one (blank tape); Overwrite existing volume? (tape used in a previous cycle for onarchive); or Not an Onarchive volume (tape used previously for something else). This lack of certainty in response makes it very difficult to write an all-encompassing script. I suppose I could define all my volumes in advance, but it strikes me that what I want to do must be a fairly common requirement. Please contact me and tell me I'm missing something and it's really easy! Thanks in advance Neil Truby Chase Manhattan Bank Bournemouth, UK neil.truby@chase.com Tel: +44 1202 341615
