re SCO UNIX on a laptop as a database server
Posted in 1995
Javier, Been there, Done that... The biggest problem is finding support for a network under SCO on a laptop I have only seen one pcmcia card supported by SCO, but I can't remember the details (found it in one of those SCO compatability guides). The other option (and it is a cheesy one) is to run a network over the serial line (slip) It can be done, we have done it, we used it at the Informix Conference, it actually stayed up for the whole show, but damn, the performance is bad. The nice thing is that you get to do all the nice network type stuff like Excel reading data via an ODBC link. If anybody knows of a better solution for network support under SCO, please let me know... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Informix Premier Var -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Miguel A.
