We're looking for software tools and companies or individuals that can help convert & translate an NT based Dynamic Server application for use in Arabic speaking parts of the Midle East. Can anyone suggest sources? Thanks.

Check out "localization" and "localisation" on the Web. You might also search on "Machine Assisted Human Translation" (MAHT). This is software that greatly increases the productivity of translators by logging previously translated terminology and text segments to a "memory database", from which it can be automtically recovered when a similar segment is encountered further on. Some of the leading products: IBM Translation Manager http://www.software.ibm.com/ad/translat/ Star Transit http://www.star-ag.ch Atril Deja Vu http://www.atril.com (site includes a searchable database of translators) Trados Workbench http://www.trados.com/index.html Some of these tools support Arabic, and can be ordered with integrated dictionaries. Transit also offers translation and localization services of its own. If you read French and can open Word 97 files, I could mail you the in-house documents I produced around this comparative study (although I would need a go-ahead from our top brass). In addition, there is a tool called Wizart that works with Windows interfaces to intercept screens and messages and put up a tranlated version instead. You can check it out at www.wizart.com The leading database of professional translators on the Web is: The Aquarius Directory of Translators and Interpreters http://aquarius.net/ For the rest, I would love to know how you get on, and what other results you dig up. After weeks of research, I find myself thrown back to square one by the fact that 4GL and 4Js, which we use to interface our databases, do not handle resource strings dynamically, dramatically hindering the localizing possibilities of software developed in this environment. So at the moment I am stuck with the *manual* extraction, tabulation and classification of some 70,000 strings of text from the source code, for passing on to the various translators. I am desperate to find a more efficient solution to this problem. If you come across any information on text extraction from 4js ".per" files please let me know.
