Informix OnLine 5.0.UD1 under Solaris 2.1
I ran into some problems with the above configuration recently.
Specifically when I ran the following commands, a segmenetation
fault would be caught hence the core dump.
isql
sqlexecd
The following commands would not cause seg faults but yield
457: Database server terminated unexpectedly.
dbaccess any esqlc programs that open a database
Has anyone run into this yet?
The response from the support engineer working with me was that
the version of Informix that I am running with has a bug (#16449)
in accessing information from the NIS server as a result, the
above symptom. The workaround he recommended is to eliminate the
use of NIS (formerly known as Yellow Pages). As this is not
acceptable as a workaround in my opinion, he offered to put us
on the escalation list for the bug fixes. He later called and
explained an Informix policy indicating that we were not eligible
to be added to the escalation since we only had an evaluation
copy for the particular version of Informix.
I have some questions:
1) Has anyone seen this bug? How do you workaround the problem?
2) Is this policy for real? What kind of impression would it give
to their prospects?
Well, we evaluated Informix, it would have been a great
product, if it works, but it does not and Informix will not
fix it soon unless we pay first?
Thanks for your comments!
