Same with most products, you tend to get what you pay for. Since this list is a freebie, there's little incentive for Informix to publish here. > many potentially disasterous things which can bring down a > system. Perfectly true. Idea of publicising them is so that the rest of the guys can prevent and avoid them, or at least recover from them. Note that there are many things that can bring down a LAN, they're just not in this group. > Have I missed all the accolades, or are there big > advantages to WingZ, Informix and the rest that looking at the > "complaint line" would not be brought up? The advantages, etc., are in the Informix glossies and some of the trade rags. The stuff usually works just fine but then it just gets deployed, rather than discussed. > I was told that > learning Informix would be the smartest software decision I could > make, and now I am wondering about the person who advised me > to do so. ????? Any real fans out there? I use most of the products (little RDS, no C-ISAM) and they generally work just fine even when pushed. I find them easy and reasonably intuitive (possible exception of DESCRIBE !). Looking through the employment pages, tho', Oracle are first, Sybase and Ingres second and Informix last in numbers. Depends what you want to do once you've learnt the stuff, I suppose. > Art McQueen Just another DOD Public servant > mcqueena@heidelberg.army.mil squandering your tax dollars ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I'm willing to do this for myself, if it would make your job any easier ...
