Yes. :-) Yes there is a lot you can do to tune OnLine. Response times should be sub second on a singleton select. The behaviour you're seeing leads me to suspect that you haven't done an UPDATE STATISTICS since loading up your test data. To fully tune, we would need: 1. Your hardware config 2. Your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig file 3. Your database schema 4. Your SQL Since this is clearly new to you, I suggest, without rancour, that you download the manuals from http://www.informix.com/answers and read, in particular, the OnLine Administrator's Guide and the Performance Guide.
