Re: ISD 9.4 ISM question

Hi,
I think what you want to achieve you can do by using a
storage manager command directly. This command does
not have an equivalent wrapping in one of the "ism_..."
commands, and it is somewhat interactive ... :
As user "root" do the following :
- run "nsradmin -c",
- menu "Select",
- type : "NSR device",
- step with "Next" to the device you want to modify,
- for this device choose "Options" and then "Hidden",
- (now "Hidden" should be marked),
- hit ESC to leave this menu,
- now you should get a screen with info about this device/volume.
- scroll through (e.g. using TAB) to item "volume expiration",
- it should have some default value, that you now can change ...
Other than that I don't know of anyhow to achieve what you're
looking for.
Regards,
Martin

Subject: ISD 9.4 ISM question
Hello,
I am setting up our IDS 9.4 to use onbar with ISM for backup and restore.
The ISM keeps track of all backups in the sysultils bar_instance table
and in the ISM catalog files (ixbar.0) and maybe other storgae manager
files.
To clean up those logbooks the RTFM says (Backup and Restore Guide 8 11):
<snip>
Expiring Old Backups on ISM Important: ISM and certain third-party
storage managers do not allow onsmsync to delete backups from the
storage manager. First, run onsmsync without any param-eters. Then,
manually expire or delete the old backups from the storage manager.
1. To manually expire the old backups from ISM, use the
ism_config -volume name -retention #days
command.
For more information, see the Informix Storage Manager Administra-tor s
Guide. 2. Run onsmsync without any options.
</snip>
Ok, onsmsync is the right tools and it cleans the sysutils.bar_instance
table. But ism_config has not a command line with volume and retention
together:
Usage: ism_config [<options>]
Options:
[ -streams #datastreams ] [ -retention #days] [
-server name ]
-volume name [ -recycle auto|manual ] [ -only_restore
yes|no ] [ -enable_restore ssid ] [ -disable_restore ssid
] [ -server name ]
Question:
How can I remove expired backups from the ism catalog?
Is there another solution than deleting such volumes with ism_rm?
Deleting volumes is for logical logs difficult, because we are backing
up logical logs to disk and deleting the whole volume is not what we want.
