We are going to do the same, but the validation (including lookups and many other functions) will be so extensive there is no way for us to go but a full blown Java program. We will use JDBC and the whole works. For the simple things you can send the users data to a CGI script at the web server where the validation is done. This means the whole input will be sent, and can't be validated while it's keyed in (somewhat like the block terminals of a mainframe - not exactly my idea of a user friendly application if the validation needed is anything more than rudimentory). For intermediate solutions there are lots of development systems floating arround from a host of more or less well known companies. For anything above the CGI based solution we have found most of them not to be all that usefull, but that has been because we also need security for Internet users. For Intranet only they may be ok. Also for Intranet only even Microsofts ActiveX technology might be something to look into. (For general Internet use ActiveX is dangerous to your health - and even more so to the health, security and support organisation of your customers. Useless with other words.) Just some preliminary opinions on something we are working on. May be they can help you a little.
