[Q] VT320 and 8-Bit Functionality

The following letter is being sent on behalf of a friend of mine without INTERNET connections. Any answers to his questions will be passed along to him. Thank you. Clifton Bean Informix Consultant ============================================================================== Dear Colleagues: Working on connecting terminals (VT320) to Terminal Server Corollary CNS-030 and then to TCP/IP, I encountered the following problems: 1. VT320 does not allow to send 8-bit symbols. I need to transfer unsigned characters without truncation because I deal with Cyrillic ASCII extension. Currently, I have to modify Corollary daemon ( connect.c, free software ) and to reserve one symbol ( e.g. ^A ) as trigger switch. Depending on trigger state daemon either maps incoming VT320 7-bit characters to 8-bit character or passes it as is. 2. Because daemon maps characters one-by-one it does not know if character is "stand-alone" or goes in sequence ( arrow keys, etc ) it converts anyway. As result I have un-understandable for terminal sequense; it beeps and writes garbage onto the screen. If you know any of the following, please write me with information: 1. How to send 8-bit character from VT320, or 2. Name of library which contains terminfo like functions, but does not perform so many redundant things ( readjusting termio structure, etc), 3. Any functions you have personally developed. Thank you, Pavel. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clifton M.
