Re: INFORMIX-4GL Compiled / INFORMIX-4GL RDS in the same

Amongst other things, SET EXPLAIN ON won't work. A variety of valid error messages will show up as 'unknown error'. The primary problem is with the message files. Other problems could be that if you needed to reinstall software, the install program is different -- one version of $INFORMIXDIR/etc/install reads the file list from standard input, the other uses a command line argument as a file name, and I think the change occurred at 5.00, This is obscure to the point of irrelevance, but indicates that there may be other surprises in store. Oh, and the brand software was updated at some point not to complain about already branded software -- again, you could run foul of that. Both these problems definitely require you to cut corners to run into difficulties; if you copy the software to be installed directly off a distribution tape and then run the install, it won't be an issue.
