Need help with my instance names

We took over an informix server about a year ago...and I'm still working on
figuring how everything works. Today, I'm looking to see how the logs are
backed up and where.
When I log into my linux server, I see two folders:
11.50 and 11.50.FC6. Does this mean there are two instances on the server?
When I run onstat -
I get IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC6 , so I assume that means
it is using the second instance called 11.50.FC6
Now when I type cd $INFORMIXDIR, I get /opt/informix/11.50 which doesn't seem
right to me. I was expecting that to go to 11.50.FC6
When I cd into 11.50.FC6
and then go into that config file (onconfig.1) and look at ALARMPROGRAM, it
looks to me like it is pointing back at the 11.50 instance!
ALARMPROGRAM /opt/informix/11.50/etc/log_full.sh

This looks like two version have been installed. Run onstat -g dis to see all
the instances on and off that are on the server.

Yes, also see above onstat -g dis

Are 11.50 and 11.50.FC6 linked directories?

What does ls -l /opt/informix show? Is should show if the two directories are
linked?

Hi, so onstat -g dis shows:
onstat -g dis
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC6 -- On-Line (Prim) -- Up 264 daysThere are 1 servers found
When I run:
ls -l /opt/informix
2010 11.50 -> 11.50.FC6
Sep 15 2010 11.50.FC6
What does being linked mean?
11.50 isn't really a directory but a symbolic link to 11.50.FC6.
11.50 and 11.50.FC6 can be used interchangeably.
So you only have one installation on this box which is an 11.50.FC6
installation.
(And, concluding from 'Prim' in onstat output header, there might be a
secondary installation/instance, on a different box.)
All seems to be fine!

Ok, thanks. Yes, there is a secondary as well.
