I migrated to 7.30.uc5 on 12-12-98. Since then Informix has crashed 6 = times. We have had Informix dial in and called them numerous times. They = have not been able to give us any help. So, I was wondering if anyone out = there has had similar problems and if there is a resolution. Here is a = rundown on what has happened. Jan. 8 11:31 Stack trace for pid 18668 written to tmp file. Then the = master daemaon died. Jan. 11 16:12 Assert failed: Memory block header corruption detected. = Then the master daemon died. When I tried to bring the engine back up, I = go the same error. Informix dialed in and was unable to find the problem. Feb. 8 8:19 Assert failed: Memory free block header corruption detected. = Assert failed: Invalid Mutex type. =20 Feb. 22, 26 Same as above. Mar 1 Assert Failed: No Exception Handler. WE are on an NCR 4300, operating system is Mp-ras 3.02. we have 2 gig of = memory. WE are running Ifas financial software. It is written in c, 4gl, = microfocus cobol, and esql/c. =20 Any help anyone can give is appreciated. Thanks, Linda=20

I would probably a) change the type of connection you are using. I assume you are using shared memory connections (onipcshm in sqlhosts). Change to ontlitcp on onsoctcp i.e. network connections. With shared memory connection the program can corrupt in the shared memory with in the engine and so crash the engine... b) Move to 7.31 once it comes out.. >Jan. 8 11:31 Stack trace for pid 18668 written to tmp file. I don't suppose this'll be much help but..... my first experience was on NCR machines and, atypically, you had to a number of kernel things to get it to work OK. As a first step i'd take a VERY close look at the release notes for NCR.
