Question about instance "hanging"

IDS 9.21FC1 HP-UX 11.00 Hi, I have a problem that occurs every now and then on my system. We are running 32 bit applications on a 64 bit engine / platform. Therefore we are forced to use tcp connections (actually stream pipes) instead of shared memory. Every now and then, we don't get a response when trying to connect to any database in the instance. This is when using stream pipes. BUT, the instance isn't really hanging, because when I change my environment to connect via shared memory, it works fine. (change it back to streams and it still "hangs") A minute or two later, we would get our response back via the streams. What will be the cause of this ? I do not get any errors from the opsys or the database. I also checked the recommended kernel parameters and nothing is under configured there. Any ideas ? But then, I would have thought that the clients get a specific refusal to connect, not a freeze-out. No further ideas... except: what does informix tech support say?
