You need an upgrade to your manuals. TRUNC is documented. So is the concatenation operator ||. You just need sufficiently recent documentation. That means the Informix Guide to SQL for the current version of your engines -- the ISQL Manuals as such describe the Engines (and therefore the SELECT statement) as of Version 4.00, which, if I recall correctly, was released in 1990 and is verging on the archaic.
