Regarding Non-Default Page Sizes
Posted in 2012
I have IDS 10.00.FC5 running on Solaris 5.8 thus I have a default page size of 2k. One of the table (NOT my design !!) has a row size of 1079 so I can only get one row per page. Fragmentation is difficult so I am limited to around 16.77 million rows and I am wasting almost half the allocated space. My intention is to create some dbspaces with 8k page size, thus increasing the number of potential rows seven fold and significantly reducing the wasted space and thus I/O. Question is, what do I do with regard temp dbspaces. Admin Guide says all temp dbspaces must be the same page size, so should I make them 2k (O/S default, current size and the same size as the majority of the dbspaces in the database), or 8k (same size as the new spaces). Is there any advantage/disadvantage either way from a performance or space point of view ? How does an 8k page size map down to a 2k temp dbspace page ? How does a 2k data page map to an 8k temp page space ? ( I think I've may have just answered this one, it doesn't matter as it's the data that is placed in temp not the pages so large temp pages have the same dis/advantages as large dbspace pages and there is no conflict between data and temp page sizes - can someone confirm ? ) I can find nothing relevant either online or in the documentation.
