RUN WITHOUT WAITING blanks screen and forces me to refresh
Posted in 1998
Hi Family. We have a large number of applications that, after an update, run another program without waiting. This has worked fine until now. Suddenly, yesterday, a new phenomenon has started to occur: The screen blanks and stays blank. If I press ^R it refreshes just fine. If I press Next/Previous on the menu, it displays the data from the appropriate FETCH, but not the more constant data from the form. So the program thinks the form is up there but the users don't see it. Obviously, someone changed SOMETHING! I have no idea where to look. Denials abound on the user side but soem 3rd-party vendors have been doing something. The changes I know about - some stuff in ONCONFIG (RA parameres and W_STATS) that were modified cannot have an influence on the behavior of the 4GL app in this case. No, TERMCAP has not changed. The program has not been recompiled since July. There is a development environment in which this does NOT happen and I'm still scouring for some relevant difference. I ran a test case on a stores database. The command line I run sleeps for 5 seconds and echos something to a known file. It does not clear the screen. I modified d4_cust.4gl (in the demo program) to run this command line without waiting. No problem. BTW, I ran an additional test case in which the command line includes a "cls" command to clear the screen. This caused the blank-screen problem in both environments, so it it is not a good model for the problem. Also, the applications that are experiencing this wierdness are 4GL prgrams but have no screen interactions. Even if they had screen interactions, what took them so long to react this way? Has anyone out there seen this? Any ideas I have missed?
