If you have LTAPEDEV set to /dev/null and the logs are
not getting automatically backed up, then the customer
must have set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null after the engine
came online. That is why you are getting the error described.
It sounds like what you want, is for the logs to get backed up automatically. You need to bring the engine down. Set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null, bring the engine online. When the engine comes online it recognizes that LTAPEDEV is set to /dev/null and sets a flag in the engine so that logs are automatically backed up.
