If you have any other failure, as part of the restore process, OnLine will see that you have logs on disk and first ask if you want to back them up.....**always do this**. True, you could have some massive failure such as a 757 crashing into the computer center that would blow away the whole system, but unless you're immediately taking tapes off-site, you'd still be at risk here. One of the safest things you can do is to use Informix mirroring to mirror the logical and physical logspaces to another disk on another controller, with continuous backup of smallish logfiles to tape. This way, you're protected against almost everything except the 757. If you lose a normal disk, restore from archive (first saving off all logfiles), then apply your logfiles. If you lose a logfile disk, you still run because of the mirror and you immediately force your logfiles to a new logfile and back up what you've got then fix the bad disk, maybe even slapping a spare partition into the mirror to maintain your mirrored logfiles. In normal ops, as the logs fill, they'll be taken off to tape automatically, so you have another level of redundancy.
