In the 7.1 Informix guide to SQL: Syntax, page 1-467, it specifies that SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT <seconds> is available, however only for OnLine. I do not have the older doc's, but I seem to recall this same functionality available in 5.x (again Online only). The DEADLOCK_TIMEOUT parameter, according to the TFM, appears to only apply to networked environments (which I assume implies distributed type access, and not, say, local loopback under DSA). In this environment the SET LOCK MODE WAIT <seconds> is only valid if set to less then the DEADLOCK_TIMEOUT setting.
