A money pit. Great sales teams, and big on customer relations. Admin is a nightmare. And if you like scripting everything in PL/SQL buy it. No 4GL, and buy a new shelf for the docs which read like martian. Their universal server really is just another glommed-on mess with the rest of the oracle barrel of monkeys. Informix: Best data base engine on the planet, seeks out the best brains in the business, relatively easy to administer with a little training and/or orientation, multi-threaded, king of shared memory, has had one of the best 4GLs, charges too much for some of their products, is poor on selling their product, GUIs are a bit rough around the edges. A wise investment, but geez clean up that techlink site. If they need help I'll be glad to revamp it for them. Customer support has improved immensely in the past couple of years, compared to before 1993? or so. Universal server is light years ahead of the old-ISAM-based oracle. :-)
