Re: Script Parameter Passed to Ontape Restore script

Art,
First I must apologize, your suggestion did work. I thought that the
procedure was prompting me for more information based on the screen image.
However, ontape was actually restoring the data. I found this fact by
looking at performance monitor. Thanks for your assistance. I do have a
couple more brief questions. First, do you know where can I locate some
documentation concerning ksh commands/language? Further, to complete my
ksh ontape auto restore script, I need to find a way to pause or wait or
loop for about 30 seconds to 1 minute before I execute the command to bring
Informix back online. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all of your help,
Jim

I do not know. There are some platforms, I know, where ontape is adamant
about
talking to a real tty. Try adding lots of 'n's if that does not work, have
you
posted to CDI? Perhaps someone else running on your platform who uses
scripting can help out.

Art,
Thanks for the valuable info. I created and executed a file with the
commands that you suggested. The restore begins, and the first two
parameters are passed. However, I cannot seem to pass a "n" to the
remaining questions which will all be answered no. How do I pass an "n"?
I cannot get passed the "Do you want to backup...logs...(y/n)" question.
The script looks like:
ontape -r <<EOF >> ${LOGFILEy
y
n
n
EOF
It's sooooooooooooooo close.
Thanks for your time,
Jim

ontape wants a tty to talk to. On some systems this means that piping in
input does not work. On many systems a 'here script' will work instead:
ontape -r <<EOF >> ${LOGFILEy
y
EOF
