Tape copy

We are using Informix 5.04 on Sun's platform (SS1000). We are doing everyday Archive 0 Level to 4 mm tape ( block size 16K ). I would like to copy information from tape to Unix file system. Is it ok if I use dd if=/dev/rmt/x of=/<dir>/<file> bs=16k will it work if I have to restore from the Unix file ? Thanks, Umesh
