With <ALL> the goodies: ESQLC 7.2 4GL 6.x ISQL 6.x One thing Informix should keep in mind as they strategize how to overcome the slump: Saturation bombing <works>. Oracle and Microsoft learned this long ago. I saw Larry Ellison of Oracle on the CNN Pinnacle show a week-end or two ago, and they toured his house. Inside, he's got samurai helmets and a big emphasis on oriental thinking and living. With this kind of warrior-like mindset, it's easy to see how Oracle is probably having a good laugh right now. Informix can get back to the groove if they reach out to the serious developer, serious data base administrator, and serious business people using data base products. Many are looking more and more to cost-effective solutions. Linux has reached into far more businesses than any other UNIX. Informix, you want to get over the slump? Get down off the perch, and join the party. It would be really cool to see this port in time for the IIUG conference. What an announcement that would make. And it would really send a message that Informix is actually aware of the market place. Even Netscape has a Linux version. To really take advantage of DSA, you've got to be able to play with it. You need to be able to bounce the engine as often as you need to just to adjust this "dynamic" engine. Once a box is in production, you need a committee decision to get down time. Allow a cheap release people can set up without charging an arm and a leg, to allow trying different things with the engine. The more people you have using your product, the more the product will be used--and purchased. And what a great way to train and learn about the product. Some of your best salesmen are people like me. :-) -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com (6 6) ------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o---------
