Using nis services and/or dns? Try making a host file under these systems that are freezing that will allow access from just required machines. Next, in host.conf, remove all but the 'hosts' from the line containing order hosts, bind, nis This will only allow the system to use the hosts file. Under 7.12 we had system locking up after nslookup or gethostbyname would start returning non-integer to the calling function and this would cause it to spawn another that locked that thread/port.....etc...etc until all ports/thread avaliable to the informix engine would cause it to lock up. Both external users and eventually user informix wasn't allowed into the database. (The o'l 1, 2, 3, init 6 and hold yer breath!). After making this change, this problem is gone! Hope that this wasn't OS specific, but it sounds exactly like this problem. magiardi@hamlet.uncg.edu wrote: > > We are experiencing the same behavior, and informix has been no help! > The only difference with our system is that after 10 or so mins. of > this 'freeze' we get 'can not open netserve.iem' when we try and go into > isql, and 'warning network is down' when we try to go > into onmonitor -- BUT everyone that was running before this (isql, 4ge > whatever) still continues to work fine.. > > On Wed, 26 Feb 1997, Stefan Weideneder wrote: > > > Cesar Alexandre de Souza wrote: > > > > > > I have a problem with DSA 7.2 running on a K250 with 256 Mb > > > I hope anyone could help me. > > > > > > Sometimes the database server seems to 'freeze', it is, > > > it is still on-line and running, there are no error messages on the log > > > but nobody can access it thru shared memory, and > > > it is possible to access it thru a network connection (soctcp). > > > We were told by a Informix Vendor hewre in Brazil that the problem was > > > with the HP-UX 10.20 and that we should install an appropriate patch. > > > We installed the shared memory patch, but the problem ocurred again. > > > > > > PLease help!! > > > > > > Cesar Souza - Brazil - casouza@usp.br > > > > Hi, > > > > you didn't tell, whether your OnLine System becomes accessable again > > after a while or after you re-start your system.
