onload: Getting a Table of Contents without actually loading
Posted in 2004
Hi All,
Our company is looking at improving the internal procedures and would
like to know what other administrators are doing to try and streamline
processes. Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with Informix backup
and restore commands, so I'd appreciate some guidance from other sys
admins.
At present, I have several databases that are copied to different
tapes using the Informix onunload command below as user informix:
onunload -t /dev/rmt0 -b 16 -s 20000000 sampledb
Typically, to verify what data is on this tape, our past procedures
required that we drop a test database we had in an established
database and replace it with the loaded data from the command below:
onload -t /dev/rmt0 -b 16 -s 20000000 -d datadbs sampledb
What we would like to do is view a table of contents of what is on the
onunload tape and somehow verify it without doing the actual load. Is
this possible? If so, what commands should I be investigating?
We are on an AIX 5 system using Informix Dynamic Server 9.30 UC2.
TIA.
Steve
