listener-thread err

HP-UX 10.20, OnLine 7.22.UC1X2 Throughout the day the engine will temporarily hang up, there will be zero ISAM calls. No one can do anything with Informix. This condition will last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Afterwards when the engine begins to respond again the log file contains several lines like the following: 13:36:41 listener-thread: err = -25587: Network receive failed. finderr 25587: A system call has failed. Perform a DISCONNECT, and then check the status of the server. See your UNIX system administrator for assistance. Tech support said that there must be a problem with our network. I have confirmed with HP tech support that there are absolutely no problems with the network or the OS. The tech from Informix suggested the following change to the onconfig file: from -- NETTYPE soctcp,1,100,CPU to -- NETTYPE soctcp,2,100,CPU this made the problem infinitely worse. Has anyone else seen this? What does it indicate? The error message points to the UNIX box, but that is not the problem...
