Hello All,
I have a clarification regarding the database restore. We are planning
for a h/w upgrade for our SAP R/3 database server running on IDS 7.31UD2XG
under Solaris 8. Iam currently devising a plan for the upgrade keeping in
mind the possibility of downtime only for the essential things during the
switch.
On the database restore part, here is my brief plan.
1) Restore the database links on the new box- OFFLINE.
2) While the original PRD is up and running, perform the database restore
using "onbar -r -p -w" on the new system -OFFLINE
3) Stop the database on the Original PRD(old) after backing up all the
logs-ONLINE
4)Alter the ixbar.0 on the new system to include all log backup entries
since the last level-0 / level-1.
5) Once it completes the physical restore for the DBspaces on the new box,
restore all the logical logs that were backed up since the last
level0/level1 backup using "onbar -r -l - ONLINE.
Before performing the step (5), i will alter as in step(4) the ixbar.0 on
the new box to include all log backup entries upto that point which was
backed up on the orignal system. Our physical dbspace (onbar -r -w -p)
restore approximately takes 10 hrs. During the 10 hrs, the idea is to retain
the original system up and running. This way, i can restore the database on
the new system upto the latest level without much of a downtime and the
users may not be affected for a longer period.
Queries
-----------
1) On the new box, will ONBAR(onbar -l -c) detect the changes and restore
the logs as per the latest ixbar.0 on step(4) ?
2) Should i have to restore using "onbar -r -n <log number>" for each log ?
Any comments/suggesstions are appreciated.
