Well, I have never quite understood the national characters handling in
Informix (I always have the impression the manual tells you something
and the software does something else) and I never worked on SCO, only on
AIX.
But, seriously, you should be able to do it. You have to distinguish
between two cases:
1) Informix < 7.20 (or 7.22 ?): You have to use NLS (National Language
Support)
- Before you start the server, you should set DBNLS=2 (this tells
the server to accept other languages than its own or access from
pre 6.0 applications)
- before starting the client (ISQL, dbaccess, ESQL-programs etc.),
you set DBNLS=2 and LANG=de_DE (or de_de) depending on your
character set (ISO8859-1 or IBM850)
2) Informix >= 7.20 (or 7.22 ?): You may use GLS (Global Language
Support)
- You should set CLIENT_LOCALE to your code set before statrting
ISQL or dbaccess. I use CLIENT_LOCALE=de_de.8859-1. Maybe you have
to use CLIENT_LOCALE=De_DE.IBM-850 if you have another character
set. You can find out the supported values by the Informix tool
"glfiles".
However, as I said at the beginning: you may encounter some
surprises. In this case try to play with DB_LOCALE before starting
the server.
Good luck!
