Blanking out a PICTURE

I have a rather simple problem: When a user puts in bad data to a field with a PICTURE assigned to it, the "ctrl-D" command cannot be used to blank out this error. What works? Backspace, delete, ctrl-x don't clear the record. (This is Informix 5.04 running on an HP/UX 10.01 system). Thanks, Michael Hoffman
