IIUG Software Repository
Posted in 1996
There have been some recent changes to the IIUG software repository, in terms of both organization and content. In the FTP archive, I have added an "ls -ltR" listing to the "ls -lR" that has been generated every night. The names of the files are "ls-ltR" and "ls-lR" respectively in the directory "/pub/informix". There are also compressed versions (.Z) available. For those of you unfamiliar with the Unix ls command, the "-lR" options produce a long-format (detailed) listing of an entire directory structure recursively. The "-ltR" options do the same thing, but list the directories and files in reverse chronological order (newest first) instead of alphabetically. Visit ftp.iiug.org or its mirror site ftp.mathcs.emory.edu for anonymous FTP access. At the IIUG Web site www.iiug.org, the multiple pages that comprised the repository index have been combined into a single Web "page" document file. This should make it easier for people to do substring searches of the index page within their own browser. It will certainly make it easier to maintain the index as new files are added to the repository. One possible negative aspect is that the index file is now about 50K of ASCII HTML. If anyone has recurring problems accessing this page, please let me know. The full-context search of all viewable files in the repository is still available and unchanged. See "http://www.iiug.org/software/" for more information. Concurrent with this reorganization is the addition of several files which should be of interest. The pathnames below refer to the FTP archive: /pub/informix/pub/blackjack.Z and /pub/informix/pub/solitaire.Z First are two new games, Blackjack and Solitaire, contributed by Paul Hutton <huttonp@ozemail.com.au>. They join the word game Hangman already in the archive. All are written in 4GL. /pub/informix/pub/tcl4gl.Z and /pub/informix/pub/tclsql.Z Mike Kuhn <mkuhn@rhlab.com> has contributed two sets of routines for interfacing TCL to Informix databases in Informix-4GL and Informix-SQL environments. Languages used are Tcl, ESQL/C and C. /pub/informix/pub/newera/ We finally have enough NewEra contributions to warrant placing them in a separate directory. They are described below, and we are actively looking for others. newera_make.Z This is a utility that replaces nmake.exe when PC NewEra compiles to only p-code. nwera4gl.exe This is a set of 4GL-to-NewEra migration tools from the Informix Advanced Technology Group. It is a newer version of the 2-disk set that has recently been available through some local Informix user groups. Note that this file is a PC self-extracting archive nearly 2.6 MB big. pickdate/ This directory contains files to demonstrate the "pickdate" functionality in NewEra 2.0. There is also pickdate.zip that is a Zip archive of the entire directory. picklist/ This directory contains files to demonstrate the "picklist" functionality in NewEra 2.0. There is also picklist.zip that is a Zip archive of the entire directory. I hope you find these utilities useful. Remember that this repository is just a collecting point and that you should take all due precautions when you use software you obtain from it or any other public distribution. If you have software or documentation files that you would like to contribute for the benefit of other Informix users, please contact "software@iiug.org" via e-mail. Don't send questions there about whether particular software is in the repository. That's what all of these indexes are for. :-) For more information on the International Informix Users Group (IIUG) send e-mail to "info@iiug.org" or visit our Web site "www.iiug.org".
