Programming C++ for Windows

Hi ! Has anyone ever programmed an application under Windows (whatever version) to connect to an informix database and retrieve informations in C++ ??? If so, I would be interested to know which tools are required, and how to use them. I mean that Borland Database Engine is simple to use, but can't be used to compile an application that would run on a machine on which it is not installed...
