I would like to offer the following comments comparing the data dictionary and optimizer of Oracle and Informix. 1. Informix's data dictionary is somewhat easier to search than Oracle's. If the data you want is in the Informix DD, it is in a table named 'sys-something'. Oracle's DD tables and views are not consistently named. 2. Oracle's data dictionary is rather more complete than Informix's. Oracle's DD contains many statistics that Informix DBAs must use tbstat, etc. to get. 3. Informix's cost-based optimizer is more advanced than Oracle's. However, Oracle's optimizer is being actively worked on and improved in each release. I don't know whether Informix's optimizer is receiving the same *concentrated* attention at this time. Regards, Alan ___________________________ ______________________| R.
