Re: Disable backups of Informix temporarily

If you set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null then you will potentially create recovery problems, depending onwhen you next archive is scheduled. You will LOSE all the transactions that occur while /LTAPEDEV is set to /dev/null I am guessing each log is backing up when it is full, and the backup is occuring from a script that runns maybe from ALARMPROGRAM. You might have enough room in your logical logs to stop the script that backs each log up when it is full while you do the work, and then start the script again. However, you are right, the database will "stop working" if you don't back up the logs for a while as the logs will become full and you will then be forced to back them up to start the database working again. You have 2 choices 1/ lose the transactions ... the /dev/null solution 2/ don't lose any transactions by making sure you have enough logical logs to store the transactions while you perform whatever function you need to perform. Stop the backups of the transactions, perform your action and then restart the log backups..
