Stealth Marketing at its Finest!
Posted in 2011
Not a technical support thread. A poster shared a link to an IBM customer success story about Informix and asked whether anyone had heard of it; several regulars replied that it was news to them. The discussion turned into commentary on IBM's poor promotion of Informix wins, nostalgia about someone who used to post such news to the group, and a brief aside where Oninit mentioned helping with IDS upgrades and OAT issues. One participant asked what "OTC" meant and was told it stood for the poster's handle, Obnoxio The Clown. No technical problem or resolution is recorded.

We (Oninit) have been helping with IDS upgrades, OTC, and John Miller iii on OAT issues via Admin-Tools :-)

Gee, are you talking about OTC? I guess what you're saying is that Informix isn't everyone's life and that OTC found life outside of Informix? Say it ain't so. And unfortunately no, I was never irritated by his posts of good things happening to Informix. I just bash IBM for being fscktards in how they handle things on the business side. Unfortunately it doesn't stop with Informix. I mean some of the stories I could tell. Like my first week as an IBMer. I mean before we went to Disneyland for eBU (E Business University) (This was in 2002? when Informixers were now 100% IBMers) There was this financial customer in Chicago where the client rep gambled and failed causing a lot of problems... Then at eBU, there was a special "welcome" lunch where the then head of SWG sales told everyone that they had one quarter to perform. If they missed their numbers, they were on probation. If they missed their numbers a second time, they were out. (I believe he later went on to head BEA sales. or something. Charlie Ills or something like that...) Oh yeah. I've got stories... lots of stories... ;-) So no, I'm happy that sometimes there are wins. I'm just not happy when IBM doesn't promote them. You talk to guys on the street and if they are old enough, they know about Informix. But IBM bought them and killed them off. (I kid you not. Ive had that conversation a couple of times this year even...) But hey! What do I know? Its not like I get to see the same dipshites at IBM continue to be arrogant pricks in new markets or anything. ;-) > Date: Tue, 19 Jul 2011 10:27:34 +0100 > From: RedGrittyBrick@spamweary.invalid > Subject: Re: Stealth Marketing at its Finest! > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > On 18/07/2011 19:12, Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > > Hands up who knew about this? > > > > http://www-01.ibm.com/software/success/cssdb.nsf/cs/JHAL-8J8P8L?OpenDocument&Site=corp&ref=crdb > > > > > > Not me. > > Some c***^H^H^H^H guy (what was his name?) used to regularly post news > of this sort to this newsgroup as a service to the community†.
