I recently surveyed several of the Informix architects and asked them several questions about the evolution of the Informix technology since the acquisition. I've heard from them. Now I would like to get your thoughts. What do you believe were the top 5 features or enhancements to the Informix portfolio since 2001? What do you believe were the top 3 under appreciated features released over the last 10 years? I appreciate your feedback. I will include some of this feedback in my keynote next week at the Informix conference in Lenexa and then again in the Chat with the Lab on the 18th of May. How could I forget non-blocking checkpoints... And yes, PAM support is underrated. What do you call "dynamic locking"? If it's the lock table auto-extension I don't like it :) On Thu, May 12, 2011 at 6:57 PM, Zev Berezin <zevb@bhphoto.com> wrote: > Jerry, > > Top Supported Features > > MACH 11 / Informix Flexible Grid > Non-blocking Interval Checkpoints > Table and Index Partitioning > Sysadmin Database / SQL API > Multiple Page Sizes / Bufferpools > > Most Under Appreciated > > PAM Support > Dynamic Locking > OAT > > Zev Berezin > Sr. Database Administrator > B and H Photo / www.bandh.com > > -----Original Message----- > From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of > Jerry > Keesee > Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 2011 4:06 PM > To: ids@iiug.org > Subject: 10 Years of Innovation at IBM [23627] > > July 1st will be the 10th anniversary of the IBM acquisition of the > Informix assets. It's the no more lock overflow messages that crept up when you couldn't lock the table but needing more locks than were anticipated due to triggers calling SP's doing writes to other tables. The problem will only be fixed when we implement limits per session. The lock table auto-extension leads to lack of memory and other nasty effects. It's true it solves _some_ cases, but it's not the solution for all.
