To find out version of informix:
dbaccess -V for engine
isql -V for SQL
i4gl -V for 4gl
r4gl -V for 4gl RDS
To access/browse data in informix database, you can use isql or
dbaccess.
As for the books, Guide to SQL Tutorial or 4GL by Example, which comes
with Informix, are good starting point.
Also, check out www.informix.com for the CGI.

}since a couple of months we've been developing websites, served to the net
}by a PowerMacintosh server. It turned out the mac wasn't powerful enough
}to handle some of our database applications, so since a week we have a sun
}netra on trial at the office.
}The machine comes installed with:

}- SunOS 5.5, OpenWindows 3.5
}- Netscape Enterprise server 2.0
}- Informix (I have no idea what version... how do I find out ????)
}- LiveWire (same here)

}the questions :
}- what are the best books (it would be great if you had ISBN numbers) for
}both the Netscape server, informix and livewire ?
}- why doesn't the sitemgr run ? Its supposed to, but I guess its not even
}on the system since find / -name site* -print only returns some html
}helpfiles.
}- Is there another interface into informix besides netscape ? some
}ordinary browsing/editing tool would be of great use.
}- how do I find out which version of informix I have installed (it was
}installed when the test-machine was delivered)
}- is there a newsgroup/website/mailinglist for
}sun/netscape/informix/livewire *beginners*, as most of the stuff in this
}group goes way above my capabilities ?
