Your view of multi-threading is very much from the OS point of view and from that view, all databases are not multi-threaded. As a database client I see it as being multi-threaded because when I send the database a query, it executes it on multiple processors *concurrently*. I don't believe the databases will ever be "OS multi-threaded" because this is an architecture that came out of SMP systems whereas all vendors are concentrating their r&d on "shared nothing" architectures which came out of MP systems. They are by-passing multi-threading onto something better. Even your company is going down the "shared-nothing" route in order to meet future performance and scaleability requirements. Your Cellular technology is an example of this. David David W Chan GO5 Limited david@go5.com (work) dwc@cix.compulink.co.uk (home)
