In 7.11 and up there is a semi-documented option to onspaces that will
bring a down chunk into an UP state. I never found it in official
OnLine Admin Guide but it was always in the class manual for DSA
training. I just went to look for it (in a 7.2 training manual from last
year) and don't see it anymore. (I think it was in chapter 9.) Either
I'm missing it or Informix decided to leave it undocumented in all
manuals, a decision for which I can't really fault them. After all,
there is very likely a good reason the chunk is down and marking it back
up is often just asking for trouble. (The option was something like -S
or -O - I forgot.)
Anyone remember this option? Please include the warning when you post
it.
Richard mentioned Advanced Support downloading a utility they can use to
mark the chunk up. He was referring to tbpatch. Well, there are some
other undocumented onspaces options (which will remain undocumented for
the general public) that make tbpatch unnecessary. In order to use
these options, you have to supply a "code of the day", which the
Informix engineer must obtain from a machine within Informix (waaay
behind the firewall). And no, I don't know the names of these options
either.
That said, the same warnings I mentioned earlier apply equally when an
Informix engineer brings up your chunk. If you have read "The Monkey's
Paw" it might give you an insight of the consequence of ressurecting
something that is dead because of a traumatic injury. (If you haven't
read it, by all means buy the book containing it! It's a classic horror
tale with a mood even Lovecraft never duplicated!)
> Cheers,
If you can remain cheery in the face of a down chunk, I admire your
resilience! ;-)
