Subject: NFS mounted database Author: informix-list-owner@rmy.emory.edu at Internet Date: 5/13/96 12:55 AM I've read the FAQ on NFS mounted databases, but have additional questions. We have online 5.05 and esql/c running on a Sun workstation running Solaris2.4. This is our server environment. We want to run our application, developed and compiled with online5.05 and esql/c, on multiple SGI Indy's. Question 1: Can we simply NFS mount the database and run the application without purchasing any client software for the above configuration? If you can do this, as I'm not sure, it will surely run extremely slow, and become a serious bottleneck. Question 2: If we upgrade to 7.xx, do we need additional software on the clients to access the database through NFS mount? Just for the client systems, as I-NET is bundled with INFORMIX version 7 database engines. Question 3: Can you NFS mount a raw database space or only cooked files? NO, you do not mount a raw partition on the server itself, so you certainly can not mount or access a raw partition remotely thru NFS. To mount a disk partition is only relevant to a file system or "cooked" space. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Jack Hallam jack.hallam@ccmail.irs.gov Sr Info Sys Spec MSD, Inc.
